The Joint Commission Revises Requirement Related to Fluoroscopy Services

Effective January 1, 2021, The Joint Commission is revising Environment of Care (EC) Standard EC.02.04.03, EP 34 for ambulatory health care organizations, critical access hospitals, and office-based surgery practices providing fluoroscopy services. After hearing from key imaging stakeholders, The Joint Commission determined that the burden of testing the maximum exposure rate in all imaging modes annually outweighs its benefit; therefore, the maximum exposure rate testing will only be required in fluoroscopic mode.
