Health Canada Approves Stiletto Extended‑Dwell Catheters

Vygon Corporatio announced that Stiletto, its new generation of extended‑dwell catheters integrating SlipStream technology, has received approval for commercialization from the federal institution Health Canada.

This approval supports Vygon’s plans to accelerate its growth in North America, where extended-dwell catheters represent a significant, rapidly expanding segment of the vascular access market. Vygon has also appointed NIPRO Canada as a distributor for the entire country.

The Stiletto Extended Dwell Catheter (EDC) is a sterile, single-use medical device designed to allow healthcare professionals to sample blood and/or administer fluids over a short duration (<28 days) through a peripherally inserted catheter. It is manufactured in the U.S. under the strict quality control standards consistent with international medical device regulations, with verified sterilization processes to ensure its safety for patient use.

Stiletto’s patented insertion system, SlipStream, replaces the traditional Seldinger technique for EDCs. By eliminating guidewires and reducing procedural steps, SlipStream offers clinicians a simpler, safer and more intuitive technique, while delivering significant clinical benefits for patients.

“This approval reflects our strong commitment to supporting Canadian healthcare professionals with high‑quality, innovative medical devices,” said Peter Ciriello, USA chief executive officer at Vygon Corporation, in charge of the North American market. “Stiletto’s SlipStream technology presents clinicians with a simpler, safer and more intuitive technique for inserting extended‑dwell catheters, delivering significant improvements in patient comfort, safety and care efficiency, fully aligned with Vygon’s mission to Value Life.”

Stiletto is Vygon’s first entry into the extended-dwell catheter market. The company offers a comprehensive vascular access portfolio worldwide, covering a full continuum of solutions, including standard midlines, extended‑dwell catheters, PICC lines, central venous catheters (CVC), implantable ports, and neonatal and pediatric vascular access devices.

Vygon will showcase Stiletto at the 40th Annual Association for Vascular Access (AVA) Scientific Meeting at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine, Texas, October 2-4, 2026. The company also plans to attend several local AVA chapter meetings.
