In early February, working with Congressmen Brad Wenstrup, DPM (R-OH) and John Larson (D-CT) and Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) and Bill Cassidy, MD (R-LA), we supported the introduction of the Outpatient Surgery Quality and Access Act of 2023 (H.R. 972/S. 312).

Fresh insights into ways that surgery centers can prepare for the inevitable leadership transitions they will experience, whether those involve key clinical staff or the ASC’s physician partners.

Creating a more diversified, equitable and inclusive health care system is not something that will happen overnight, nor is it something ASCA can achieve on its own. Systemic change will take time and commitment and resources from the government and the entire health care system.

Since the first of January, ASCs and hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs) that provide care to Medicare patients have been operating under new payment rules the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) finalized last November.

Economists and health care professionals agree that most of these problems are not likely to go away soon. Our best chance to turn these situations around is for everyone in health care to come together to design and support multifaceted, long-term solutions and participate in public-private partnerships to make them work.
