Effective July 1, 2025, Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) will be recognized by the New York State Department of Health as an approved accrediting organization for office-based surgery (OBS) practices. This designation gives healthcare providers in New York a new accreditation option focused on education, customer service and provider collaboration.
ACHC’s approval places it among a select group of organizations recognized by the state to accredit OBS settings and reinforces ACHC’s ability to meet rigorous regulatory standards while offering providers a more personalized and supportive accreditation experience.
“New York is a key market for office-based surgery centers, and we’re proud to offer a new pathway for these providers to meet state requirements through an educational accreditation experience that adds value for procedural practices,” said Rommie Johnson, Program Director, Ambulatory Surgery & Office‑Based Surgery Accreditation with ACHC. “Our goal is to help providers deliver safe, high-quality care in every setting.”
New York law requires accreditation for any office-based procedure performed by a physician, PA, or podiatrist that involves general anesthesia, moderate to deep sedation or any liposuction, when performed outside of a hospital, ambulatory surgery center or diagnostic and treatment center. ACHC’s approval reflects the organization’s proven ability to promote quality care and compliance in complex clinical settings.
ACHC is already an approved accreditor for OBS providers in California and Florida, expanding its footprint in key states with large volumes of office-based surgical practices.
