Attendees will gain knowledge of the methods of participating in humanitarian surgical missions domestically and globally in underdeveloped countries. There has been a continual increase in the interest of health care professionals participating in international surgical missions, however, there are many ethical considerations that individual humanitarian volunteers must consider prior to participation to promote safe surgery outside of selfish ambition. This educational program will bring awareness to the increased need for education on this topic to include reflections on a humanitarian volunteer’s personal ethical considerations in relation to their personal readiness and role on a surgical team.
