For those driven by the call to give back, a unique opportunity exists to care for people in need and use your talents to have a lasting impact. Mercy Ships is a global charity that has an urgent need for volunteer medical professionals to help change lives from hospital ships in Africa.
For more than 40 years, Mercy Ships has worked with governments and global partners to provide hope and healing for people who cannot get access to safe surgery. By deploying the largest hospital ships in the world, Mercy Ships provides medical care to people who face the daily reality of a life that can include suffering and death from treatable diseases.
The hospital ships deployed by Mercy Ships are filled with state-of-the-art medical equipment and a global volunteer crew of doctors, nurses, medical staff, technicians, teachers, physical therapists and other caring people driven by mercy to help make the world a better, healthier place.
Take the story of Ulrich, a young man born with muscles in his legs that did not develop at the same rates as his bones, leaving his legs bent drastically backward. The severity of his condition and lack of available healthcare left him unnaturally bent over, and a source of instant stares and ridicule in his community.
By uniting volunteers from around the world, Mercy Ships was able to provide several complex surgeries for Ulrich on one of the hospital ships that Mercy Ships operates in Africa, which straightened his legs. Now standing tall, his life has been transformed and is filled with hope.
Around the world, people who have volunteered with Mercy Ships speak of it as the experience of a lifetime, filled with many dimensions. The opportunity involves the chance to travel and experience a new culture, use your skills to tackle complex cases that are not seen in many parts of the world and work alongside medical professionals from 66 nations as part of a safe, nurturing community.
