Spotlight On

As early as middle school, Katie Chargualaf found herself contemplating a career in health care. Growing up in a family of health care providers, where health care was commonly talked around the dinner table and at holidays, made it easy for her to see herself entering the field. Chargualaf was hesitant, however, because she felt an equally strong pull to consider a career in education. While volunteering in a hospital one evening, she had an epiphany that maybe she didn’t have to choose between the two. 

 When Summer Bryant, DNP, RN, CENP, CMSRN, was a high-school student growing up outside of Topeka, Kansas, she recalled exploring “basically every health care career there was except nursing.”

Growing up in a household where both parents were psychiatrists and psychoanalysts, David Spiegel joked that his upbringing prepared him to become “whatever kind of psychiatrist I wanted to be.” After he saw the results his father demonstrated through learning and practicing hypnosis with his patients, Spiegel found his own interest in the technique piquing as well.
