Case Medical Launches Hand Sanitizer Amid Supply Shortage

Case Medical, a provider of infection prevention, sterile processing, and surgical solutions, has announced the release of Case Solutions Alcohol Antiseptic 80% Topical Solution Hand Sanitizer. Supplies of hand sanitizer have been insufficient to meet demand during the COVID-19 pandemic. Hand sanitizer is one of the primary tools for preventing spread of the novel coronavirus and other infectious diseases.

“At Case Medical, we wanted to be part of the effort to combat the virus,” notes Marcia Frieze, CEO. “Our offices and manufacturing are located near the epicenter of the U.S. outbreak, just west of New York City in Bergen County, New Jersey. We’ve seen first-hand the devastation caused by the illness, the strain on our healthcare system, healthcare workers, and members of our community. The best way for us to help is by producing hand sanitizer using our existing infrastructure—expertise and equipment for our line of surgical instrument cleaning solutions.”

Due to the high level of public health threat posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDA issued guidance allowing, “temporary preparation of certain alcohol-based hand sanitizer products by firms that register as over-the-counter (OTC) drug manufacturers” for the duration of the public health emergency. The guidance specifies use of a formula consistent with World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations, with three ingredients including either denatured ethyl alcohol or isopropyl alcohol and hydrogen peroxide.

The new Case Solutions Hand Sanitizer product is available by the case in 24 oz, 8 oz, or 2 oz bottles. It is also one of three products included in the Case Solutions® Infection Prevention Environmental Cleaning and Disinfecting Kit, which also includes US EPA Safer Choice-labeled PentaPrep® Multi-Enzymatic Cleaner and Case Solutions 70% Alcohol Spray.
