Applied Medical launches the next advancement of its groundbreaking Voyant Intelligent Energy system – a new algorithm to further enhance clinical performance and patient outcomes. The Voyant system has the unique ability to accelerate learning and adapting through user experience. The system’s intelligence is embedded in the device key to store activation data from each vessel or tissue bundle sealed during the surgical procedure. As a result, data extracted from surgeries is analyzed by Applied Medical scientists and engineers to produce new algorithms to meet ever-changing health care needs.
The Voyant system’s newest algorithm offers multiple benefits to surgeons, including excellent hemostasis, faster sealing times, an overall reduction in tissue adherence, minimal thermal spread and reduced smoke plume. These enhancements allow for increased efficiency and improved visualization in open and laparoscopic procedures where the Voyant system is used.
“The Voyant Intelligent Energy system represents the future of energy devices. With the Voyant system’s intelligence and the ability to capture, track and analyze real-life data, there’s no limit to what we can learn from the use of the devices in surgery,” said Gary Johnson, group president of advanced energy at Applied Medical. “As we continue to learn from surgeons who perform many different types of procedures, we are able to evolve our technology to better serve their needs.”
The Voyant Intelligent Energy system collects information about the nature of the tissue within the device’s jaws, rapidly and constantly measures tissue as the energy is applied, and adjusts to provide the optimal amount of energy throughout the seal cycle to create a permanent, fused seal.
“Intraoperatively, from the first use of the Voyant device, the speed to completion of vessel sealing was astonishing. There was a substantial decrease in dissection time with no alteration in bleeding, smoke plume or visible heat dispersion on the surrounding tissue,” said Dr. Jeffrey Thompson, DeKalb Regional Medical Center. “It was pleasing to finish the dissection more rapidly. The patient definitely benefited from less operative time.”
The Voyant Intelligent Energy system is comprised of a comprehensive family of advanced bipolar devices to meet a variety of surgical needs and preferences: Voyant Maryland Fusion, Voyant 5mm Fusion, Voyant Fine Fusion and Voyant Open Fusion devices. In combination with the Voyant electrosurgical generator, the devices deliver radio-frequency energy to tissue captured between the jaws and divide sealed tissue with a user-actuated blade. The devices seal vessels, up to and including 7mm in diameter, and tissue bundles. The Voyant Maryland Fusion and Voyant 5mm Fusion devices offer 5mm shafts ideal for laparoscopic and open procedures. The scissor-style Voyant Fine Fusion device offers fine jaws for controlled tissue dissection. The Voyant Open Fusion device offers large jaws for procedural efficiency in open procedures.
