Most nurse leaders are being asked about AI before they’ve had a chance to decide what they want from it. In a 2025 C8 Health survey of 100 quality leaders, 76% named “knowledge chaos” as their biggest barrier to success. Protocols scattered across shared drives and binders, training that varies by unit, no single source of truth at the bedside, version questions nobody can answer. AI gets pitched as the fix. Far fewer people explain what the first ninety days actually look like.

This session treats implementation as a project with a timeline, not a concept to debate. The panel covers what to settle before you sign anything, including who owns the protocols and how much IT lift is genuinely involved. From there, how to choose a first department, prove the model, and scale it.

Nursing sits at the center of this work. Nurses touch nearly every protocol in the perioperative episode, and they’re usually the first to notice when documented practice and actual practice have drifted apart. When something new goes live, much of the training and adoption load lands on nursing whether or not anyone planned for it. The conversation keeps that reality in view.
