Sterile Processing Market Growth Continues

A report by Grand View Research suggests continued growth of the sterile processing market.

“The U.S. sterilization services market size to be valued at $2.72 billion by 2025 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.1% during the forecast period,” according to the report. “The rise in prevalence of chronic diseases and various initiatives taken by the government to ensure the adoption of essential sterilization standards in hospitals and research centers is expected to drive the market over the forecast period. Currently, stringent medical safety and infection control norms are increasing public awareness, resulting in shorter hospital stays and reduced healthcare costs.”

“By end-use, the market is segmented into hospitals, pharmaceuticals, medical device companies, clinical laboratories/research centers, and others, which includes food and beverage companies. The hospital segment dominated the U.S. sterilization services market in 2016 and is expected to retain its position throughout the forecast period (2025),” Grand View Research states.

The sterilization services market size reached $9.80 billion in 2021 and is expected to register a CAGR of 10.6% during the forecast period (2021-2030), according to latest analysis by Emergen Research.

“One of the major factors driving revenue growth is introduction of sterilization services in the health care industry to lower the risk of hospital-acquired infections. The pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries’ medical device manufacturing sector maintains a sterile processing environment within the facility throughout production or tests as needed,” according to Emergen Research.

“One of the major factors driving the growth and demand of the sterilization services market is the increasing emphasis on outsourcing sterilization operations among hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and medical device manufacturers. Additionally, over the course of the forecast period, the prevalence of hospital-acquired diseases is expected to grow. The growth of the market is driven by factors including technological advancements in the usage of sterilizing chemicals and equipment in industrial facilities, and rising awareness regarding cleanliness across all institutions,” according to Emergen Research.

According to the World Health Organization, a significant number of people around the world suffer harm from healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), many of which are entirely preventable. The absence of HAIs cannot be guaranteed, not even in the most developed or sophisticated country or health care system. Thus, it is expected that the increase in hospital-acquired infections will increase the demand for sterilizing services.

The global sterilization equipment market is expected to reach USD 15.6 billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 10.5%, according to Research and Markets.

“The rising incidence of hospital acquired infections (HAIs), impact of the COVID-19 outbreak, and the increasing number of surgical procedures are the key driving factors of the market. The recent outbreak of COVID-19 is anticipated to significantly impact the market. The pandemic caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 has drastically increased the demand for medicines, emergency supplies, and hospital equipment including gowns, antiseptics, and disinfectant products,” according to Research and Markets.

Mordor Intelligence provides additional insights.

“High-temperature equipment is the most widely used and the most dependable sterilization equipment. High-temperature sterilization is usually nontoxic to patients, staff, and the environment and is highly microbicidal. It also penetrates deep into the medical devices and is less costly than other sterilization equipment, thus making it cost-effective. These factors are responsible for the dominance of this segment in the market. High-temperature sterilization equipment is further sub-segmented into steam sterilization and dry sterilization,” Mordor Intelligence reports.

“Moreover, the launch of new products in the segment may drive the market’s growth. For instance, in May 2020, Esco launched Esco CelCulture CO2 Incubator with High Heat Sterilization (CCL-HHS). It has proven effective in killing resistant fungi, bacterial spore, and vegetative cells that may contaminate the workspace. Thus, such factors are expected to boost the segment’s growth during the forecast period (2023-2028),” Mordor Intelligence states.
