OR Today Webinar Addresses Incivility, Bullying

The recent OR Today webinar “Bringing Shadow Behavior Into the Light of Day” presented by MFW Consultants President Phyllis Quinlan was well received with tons of positive comments in post-webinar surveys.

Quinlan, PhD, RN-BC, is a successful nurse entrepreneur and is a certified transformational personal/career coach. She specializes in the unique needs of nurses and other professional/family caregivers. In her insightful presentation she discussed awareness and insight into the personality of a bully; the collaboration needed between leadership, labor and human resources to create zero tolerance for incivility/bullying; and an approach to managing incivility and bullying based in the principles of emotional intelligence.

The live webinar was attended by 159 OR professionals and more have viewed a recording of the webinar online. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive via a post-webinar survey sent to each attendee.

“This was one of the best webinars I’ve attended. It gave an excellent overview of bully behaviors and provided down-to-earth, workable suggestions for dealing with these staff members. I know a few people who would benefit greatly from this webinar,” Administrator and Clinical Director D. Zimdahl shared.

“This was a great webinar, as most are offered through OR Today. Really appreciate the CEs offered to complete our requirements for CNOR and others,” Regional Patient Safety Officer T. Ralls wrote.

“Excellent webinar for everyone to hear, gives you insight into bettering your performance as well as how to manage others’ behaviors,” Co-Administrator V. Lococo said.

“Phyllis Quinlan presented a topic that is current and relevant in perioperative nursing. Her presentation included practical information and suggestions that can easily be put into practice,” Perioperative Education Nurse Manager V. Pokorny wrote.

“Unfortunately, bullying is predominant in our society and in medicine. Great information in this webinar for you to deal with it,” said M. Kuznitz, CRNFA.
